FEB 26-1 | Discussion on the Great Commission

Intro:

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV): "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

  • The Great Commission is not just a call to missionaries but to all believers, including church leaders.

1: 'Go and Make Disciples' - Embracing Outreach

  • What does it mean to "go" in the context of a young adult’s life? It could be reaching out within their workplace, school, community, or through social media.

  • Application: Encourage them to think of ways they can share their faith or serve others in their current environment. Ask them practically, what can you do tomorrow?

2: 'Baptizing Them' - The Role of Community

  • Baptism isn’t just a transformative standalone experience, it’s also a symbol of joining the Christian community.

  • How can leaders foster a welcoming, inclusive community that encourages spiritual growth after being baptized?

  • Application: Brainstorm ideas for creating supportive conversations where students can explore faith and ask questions.

3: 'Teaching Them to Obey' - The Importance of Discipleship

  • It’s important to reflect on the word of God for teaching and mentorship in spiritual growth.

  • How can leaders and disciples, both teach others and seek learning themselves? Outside of group, what else can be done? Devotional? Church service?

  • Application: Suggest starting small group discussions, Bible studies, or mentorship programs.

Conclusion:

  • Encourage everyone to take small steps towards living out the Great Commission in their daily lives. It’s less about an altar and a microphone and more about the message pouring our of you wherever you go.

Closing Prayer:

  • Offer a prayer for guidance, courage, and wisdom for your group as they seek to fulfill the Great Commission in their own contexts.
